Synopsis

On the planet of Ranskoor Av Kolos, after 17 years of training by Andinio, Deplh uses power within himself to start to build a structure using the rocks on the planet's surface. But he's interupted by the sudden arrival of an alien warrior - Tzim-Sha.

3,407 years later the Doctor receives 9 distress signal coming from the same area of the Ranskoor Av Kolos, and goes to help. But before the TARDIS materialises the Doctor warns Graham, Yaz, and Ryan, about the planet. Roughly translated the name means Disintegrator of the Soul. The planet is transmitting violent psychotropic waves through the atmosphere - the type that mess with the brain and distort reality. The Doctor then hands out neural balancers that should make them all immune to the planet.

The TARDIS materialises inside a spaceship on the planet's surface. At first the ship seems deserted, but they soon meet Paltraki, who is training a gun on them. Paltraki, who has lost his memory after going outside, is suspicious of the Doctor, even though she tells him she is answering the distress call. The Doctor offers him a neural balancer. It takes a little while for the neural balancer to work, and the Doctor goes to a console where Graham, Yaz, and Ryan, have found information about the crew of the ship. The Doctor turns on the power, and finds there is nothing wrong with the ship. Paltraki could have left at any time.

With the power restored a video call comes through for Paltraki. On the screen Andinio asks for Paltraki to return, saying the creator demands it. And there is another voice that the Doctor and her gang know, Tzim-Sha, telling Paltraki to return what is his. When Paltraki stalls Tzim-Sha says he will return Paltraki's remaining crew if Paltraki returns what he took.

Paltraki shows the Doctor what he took (or rather recovered) - a translucent block with something in the centre. As Paltraki starts to remember Ryan finds a map with targets marked on it. The Doctor takes the block and tells Paltraki they will accompany him to find out what is going on, and to get his crew back. Whilst walking across the planet's rocky surface Graham takes the Doctor to one side and informs her, much to her disgust, that if he gets a chance, he will kill Tzim-Sha for what he did to Grace.

Paltraki leads everyone to a misty area where there are still burning ships of other people who came to the planet - the Vanquished of Ranskoor Av Kolos. In the distance they can see a huge floating edifice. When they reach the edifice the Doctor hands out few things she took from Paltraki's ship: some throat microphones so they can stay in contact, as well as grenades, and a bomb (despite the Doctor's never carry weapons mantra). They walk into an area underneath the edifice and the Doctor activates a telport. The inside is gloomy, and they split up, with each person given a different task.

The Doctor is met by Andinio, who wants the object the Doctor is carrying. The Doctor finds out that Andinio is an Ux. There Ux are only found in pairs, and on three planets. The Doctor has heard of them: faith based dimension engineers. The building they are feels alive, built by the Ux. Andinio says the ships outside were destroyed by her, as she was protecting the Creator. The Doctor asks to vbe taken to the Creator: Tzim-Sha. Tzim-Sha orders Andinio to leave and prepare Delph for a new target, whilst he talks to the Doctor.

He is furious with the Doctor; after their first meeting the Doctor corrupted his recall device. When it was activated, 3,407 years ago, it banished Tzim-Sha to Ranskoor Av Kolos. When he arrived the first people he met were the Ux - who worship him as a god. With his knowledge, and the Ux's power, Tzim-Sha has been planning revenge on the Doctor.

Yaz and Paltraki make their way to a room that holds more of the objects like the one the Doctor has. Paltraki tells Yaz there are five in total, and she tells the Doctor before hiding as Andinio enters. As a wall panel lights up they can see Delph being restrained. Andinio sits at the base, and together with Delph power starts flooding through them. As the power builds Tzim-Sha tells the Doctor that the entire building is a weapon. The Doctor heads to the room Yaz and Paltraki are in and sees the other objects that are shaking. Paltraki remembers what the objects contain: stolen planets. And Tzim-Sha's and the Uxs' next target is Earth.

At the same time Graham and Ryan find the room containing Paltraki's crew, along with dozens of other people, all held in stasis chambers. Using code breakers from Paltraki's ship they start to free the hostages. They manage to baricade the doors to stop Sniperbots and call for help from the Doctor. With the Doctor busy Paltraki goes to help, as Tzim-Sha notices and goes to stop them. Paltraki destroys the Sniperbots and takes the crew that have been rescues back to his ship. Ryan and Graham stay as there are still some hostages that need rescuing. When the last of them are rescued Graham tells Ryan to take them to the ship, leaving him alone as Tzim-Sha enters the room. Graham raises a Sniperbot gun and aims at Tzim-Sha.

With Tzim-Sha targetting Earth the Doctor needs to disconnect the Ux, but that could kill them. Instead the Doctor uses her and Yaz's neural balancers to stop the Ux signal. Andinio is upset that the Creator's will is being defied. The Doctor convinces her that Tzim-Sha has been exploiting their faith. With the power interupted the planets held inside the objects start to destabilise. The Doctor, starting to suffer without the neural balancer, mamages to call the TARDIS. The Doctor connects the planets to the TARDIS, and using the telepatic circuits Delph is able to return them to where they came from.

Ryan returns to the stasis room and see Graham say he is the bigger man and lower his weapon. But when Tzim-Sha threatens Ryan Graham shoots him in the foot, and together they lock Tzim-Sha in a stasis chamber.
